Ray Carson
Photography Section Head
Ray Carson is a professional photographer with more than 25 years experience. His career began in college where he spent three years as a writer, photographer and editor with the Daily Utah Chronicle. After graduating in 1985 from University of Utah with a degree in photojournalism and history, he continued his career in a variety of photographic fields, including commercial product, wedding, portrait, news, editorial and fine art. He joined News Bureau in 1993 as a staff photographer and now heads the photography department.
He has been published in numerous national and regional magazines, more than 50 newspapers, and has organized, produced and promoted 30 gallery exhibits. He is also a published author/photographer of the internationally released book "The Civil War Soldier: A Photographic Journey", and was the principal photographer and editor of Gainesville Alive With Opportunity. Carson's professional awards include the Golden Gator Award for Creativity, Silver Reel Award from the U.S. Film Commission, two first-place awards from the University Professional Photographers Association, and a first-place CASE award.
