Frank Ahern
Director, UF News Bureau – Broadcast
Frank Ahern began his career in broadcast journalism as a weekend intern at WJXT, Jacksonville while pursuing a degree at the University of Florida. After graduating from UF in 1972 with a degree in broadcasting, he started working as a reporter and weekend anchor at WFTV in Orlando. In 1975 he accepted a position at WTVT, Tampa covering city government. He later moved to a job at WFLA, Tampa and worked there in various reporting assignments including Pinellas county bureau chief and a stint as executive producer, until 1985. Highlights of his work there include two Emmy awards for coverage of the Skyway Bridge disaster in 1980 and the Tampa NAACP award for outstanding reporting in 1984.
Ahern joined the University of Florida in 1986 as associate director for broadcast operations in the Division of Information and Publication Services. He became director of the UF News Bureau for broadcast media in 2006.
