Dan Williams
Director, Marketing
Dan Williams is Director of Marketing, and is responsible for marketing communications activities and initiatives for the university.
Three years after graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in advertising, Mr. Williams founded an advertising agency in Gainesville with two partners. The agency grew to regional prominence and was ultimately inducted into the American Association of Advertising Agencies. While in the agency business in Gainesville, he also taught an advertising course at UF as an adjunct.
Mr. Williams has an extensive background in advertising, branding and strategic planning, and has served as president, chief executive officer and chief creative officer for several advertising agencies. In those roles, he developed award-winning marketing communications and creative strategies for a wide range of high-profile products and services. His branding strategies guided several product lines to leadership positions in their respective categories. Williams also served as associate publisher of Cloud City Communications, a company which published city magazines and area guides.
Williams lived in Colorado for several years before returning to Gainesville in September 2006 to become marketing director. While in Colorado, he operated a small advertising and strategic planning firm, served as board president of the Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce, and as chairman of an area economic development task force. He also spearheaded a successful effort to create a tourism association for the Crested Butte area, a ski resort and outdoor recreation destination in the Rocky Mountains.
He became an avid skier and mountain climber while in Colorado, and has summitted more than 50 of the highest peaks in the U.S.
Williams is a U.S. Army Veteran.
