Sea Grant and the Oil spill:
FSG and UF Extension provided efficient outreach to coastal residents, businesses and communities. They helped owners file claims and provided support for volunteers. In addition, FSG is working with Gulf of Mexico Land Grant Universities to ensure safety of seafood as well as lending hands to families facing economic crisis due to the oil spill.
Artificial Reef Programs:
FSG explored the economic benefits of artificial reef-related activities and discovered that these activities generated more than $225 million in economic outputs and supported 2,600 full and part-time jobs.
UF/Sea Grant Regional Waterway Management System:
The red tape process has been cut and the process for canal dredging is in order, which has saved taxpayers an estimated 3 million dollars since 2006. This process would allow homeowners who would like to protect their waterfront property with "living shorelines."
