Chair
Amelia Bell is the Secretary of the University of Florida Faculty Senate. Bell is responsible for communicating with a variety of audiences, including Senators, administrators and faculty. She is the editor of the Faculty Senate newsletter and is responsible for maintaining the Faculty Senate Web site. Bell is the educational services director of the Florida Public Relations Association’s Gainesville chapter. She received a bachelor’s in public relations from UF and is working on a master’s in mass communication from UF.

Nickie Doria, APR, is marketing director for The Emmer Group, overseeing the sales and marketing of single family, multi-family and condominium projects. She is directly responsible for public relations, advertising, market research, sales, Internet relations, promotions, special events and community relations. Doria is immediate past-president of the Gainesville chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association and is a member of the Florida Home Builders North East Sales and Marketing Council and the National Association of Home Builders Sales and Marketing Council. She is also a member of the Builders Association of North Central Florida and the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Terry Van Nortwick: Whether she's flying a small airplane, diving off the coast of Jamaica, cruising Borneo's Mahakan River or starting a business with a dream and no money -- living on the edge is part of normal everyday life for Terry Van Nortwick. One of her biggest challenges, starting PRO iNK (formerly Production Ink) in 1979, has turned into one of North Central Florida's biggest success stories. “I never want to be bored,” says Terry. “I thrive on challenging projects -- and that’s what we look for when we accept clients at PRO iNK.” With 37 years of experience in public relations and communications, Terry frequently speaks and leads workshops on developing marketing plans, writing for the Web, effective use of public relations strategies, how to start a business, and effective advertising techniques for business. She has been a visiting professor in the Department of Public Relations at the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications. She graduated from UF with a bachelor of science in journalism (1970) and a master's in communications (1977). Gainesville’s Council for Economic Outreach named Terry the Business Volunteer of the Year in 1998 and the Florida Public Relations Association's Gainesville Chapter named her "Public Relations Professional of the Year" in 1994. She was named a “Woman Who Makes a Difference” in 2001 by the Gateway Girl Scout Council.

Magazines and Annual Publications

Chair
Ayola Singh-Kreitz is the Web & Client Services Consultant for the UF Computing Help Desk. She is responsible for the collection, development and publication of all the publications and marketing materials for her group. She has redesigned several Web sites in her department to follow the UF template. She also oversees other technological items such as the development and use of the Help Desk wiki, which contains useful online resources for both the UF Community and Help Desk employees. Ayola also is actively involved in her department’s main publication, Academic Technology’s Teaching with Technology. In UFCN, Ayola is part of the Internal Communications Committee.

Terry Hynes is dean emerita and professor in the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications. She is the public outreach director for UF's Documentary Institute, which includes an award-winning team of faculty documentarians and a master's program in documentary. Hynes was assistant vice president for university relations in 2006-2007, where her primary responsibility was to provide leadership in developing a more strategic approach to telling the University of Florida story nationally and internationally. She has won numerous awards and held many offices in professional organizations, including national president of both the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). She also served as vice president of the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (the highest office held by academics in ACEJMC). She is one of only a handful of persons ever to have held all three elected positions.

Jim Atyeo is the staff photographer at Santa Fe Community College. He is working on his 29th year at the college. Jim also teaches Photo 1 and 2 for Community Education at SFCC. He has taught Electronic Still Photography for the Graphics Design program at SFCC as well. Jim also has had great fun teaching portrait and lighting seminars around the state. Jim has been a judge for the Southeastern High School photographic contests and has served as a judge for several of North Florida’s camera clubs. He also has judged numerous Science Fairs on the photographic components.

Photography and Visual Design

Chair
Jeff Stevens is the Webmaster for the UF College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and is currently chair of the UFCN Web and Electronic Communications Committee. He also is the CEO and creative director of Union Design & Photo, a graphic and web design company located in Newberry, Florida. Jeff is a graduate of the College of Mass Communication at FSU with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and History, and he received his master’s degree from the UF College of Journalism and Communications. Jeff’s work has been featured in several volumes of LogoLounge. He is a recipient of a 2006 Honorable Mention in the Web category of the Golden Gators and has won an ADDY for his Web site work. Jeff is a member of the Newberry-Jonesville Chamber of Commerce, the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, and the Gainesville Advertising Federation.

John Kaplan, an University of Florida tenured professor of journalism, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in 1992 and was honored with the Overseas Press Club Award for Feature Photography in 2003. In 1989, Kaplan was named National Newspaper Photographer of the Year in the annual Pictures of the Year (POY) contest. He has twice received awards by the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation. Kaplan is a frequent lecturer at photography and journalism workshops throughout the world and also has received national recognition for his poetry and writing. In addition, he has been named the College of Journalism and Communications Teacher of the Year. Kaplan teaches photography, design and international journalism.

Shawna Mansfield is owner and creative director of Gamut Design Group, a local graphic design firm. Gamut Design Group specializes in logo, print, web and multimedia design and has conducted design software seminars for the University of Florida and Central Florida Community College. Five years ago, Shawna joined SFCC’s widely accredited Graphic Design Technology Department as an adjunct instructor. Her high standards along with a fresh and practical approach in the classroom have made her one of the most desired instructors in the program. She currently is serving on the Advertising Federation of Gainesville’s Board of Directors as ADDY Co-Chair for the 2007-2008 ADDY Awards; on the Board of Directors for the Gainesville Area Women’s Network as Communications Chair; and on the American Cancer Society’s 2008 Cure By Design Committee as Print Design and Web Design Sponsor.

Electronic Media and Web/Interactive Media

Chair
Tom Caswell is the Assistant University Librarian for UF's Architecture and Fine Arts Library. He is responsible for the collection development of research materials in the areas of art, art history, museum studies and related disciplines. Over the years, he has served as a visual representative on the Art in State Buildings Committee and also as a judge in regional book awards for arts-related publishing. He received his master's degree in library and information science from the University of South Florida, and his bachelor's degree in art history from the University of Florida.

Jason Hinson is the assistant director for online undergraduate programs in UF’s Warrington College of Business Administration. He coordinates admissions, marketing, advertising and promotion for the college’s Online Business Degree Program. Hinson began his UF career as a recruiter and admissions officer in the Office of Admissions, eventually being named assistant director for communication and publications. In this role, his duties included marketing special events, recruiting and coordinating print and web publications. Hinson received a bachelor’s of architecture from the University of Tennessee.

Tracy Bachmann: It may be because she is the daughter of a Marine, but Tracy Bachmann is truly a “born-leader.” As PRO iNK’s creative director, Tracy knows how to analyze a project, develop a strategy, inspire a team and create messages and visuals that deliver customers and results – all with incredible energy and passion. PRO iNK clients have come to count on Tracy for her clear vision and sound judgment. A Chicago transplant, Tracy spent six years in the marketing and communications business before joining the PI team. She was a designer for The Bond Group, where she specialized in business-to-business communications for real estate, medical and industrial clients. Her work has been recognized throughout her career. Her passions include fine design for everything from mid-century modern architecture to shoes. After living in Japan, California, Washington, DC and Florida, Tracy graduated from Flagler College with a BA in graphic design. She is the mother of Stella, 3, and Judah, 5. In her spare time, Tracy enjoys live music, reading, travel and community service projects.

Chair
Tracy Bryant joined IFAS Communication Services at the University of Florida in 2001. She has more than 10 years experience in many graphic design settings, including direct mail, marketing, private print shops and higher educational venues. Previously, Tracy has judged the Golden Gator Awards, IFAS Image Awards, 4-H Congress competitive events, Brevard County Transportation's 25th Anniversary contest and the Florida Today newspaper Design an Ad contest. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications/Advertising from the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Sheila A. Zachow, APR, Customer Relations Director for Gainesville Health & Fitness Centers, fine-tuned her talents in the area of entertainment public relations representing athletes and actors in various entertainment fields. In her current position with GHFC, she utilizes her agency experience in the field of health and fitness public relations where she plans events, works with the media and handles community relations activities both externally and internally. Sheila was initiated into the world of entertainment while still attending college at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.  Sheila worked on many major campus events including Gator Growl. After graduation from college, Sheila continued her work in the fields of public relations and special events planning while she was employed with Ann Taylor. Eventually, Sheila was recruited to work as the Director of Promotions and Publicity for Unseen Productions. This is where Sheila learned a great deal about the music industry including planning and managing concert tours, developing CD release parties, and creating publicity campaigns for musicians. After a time developing publicity campaigns and securing sponsors for tours, Sheila decided to move to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career at a leading entertainment organization, Levine Communications, until starting her own public relations boutique Enigma Entertainment with a close friend. Today, Sheila lives in Gainesville, Florida where she currently serves as President for the Gainesville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association and lives with her husband and two dogs, Kansas and Dakota.

Sarah White is the Production Manager for the School of Theatre and Dance. In addition to her job as Production Manager, Sarah also coordinates publicity for the School and oversees the Publicity Production and Performance area. She teaches Stage and Theatre Management, is the mentor for all of the schools Stage Managers and is the Faculty Advisor for the Florida Players. She received her BFA in Theatre from the University of Florida and her MFA in Scenic Design from Florida State University. She held the position of Stage Supervisor at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts where she was the technical supervisor for a wide variety of shows and had the opportunity to work with many different artists. She has most recently designed for Dance Alive!, Tallahassee Community College, Gainesville Community Playhouse and Central Florida Community College. She is the proud mother of two beautiful girls.
