University Relations and the Art of Social Media

The role of social media is literally growing with each passing minute. Few other vehicles provide so many opportunities to instantly create, connect and share. It is indeed the wave of “the right now,” and a vital part of UREL’s mission. As a core component of our communications efforts, the UF Social Media staff reaches thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and fans on a daily basis. With over 475,000 friends on Facebook, 35,000 followers on Twitter, and 188,000 views on YouTube, UF’s Social Media efforts are often the first point of contact across the Gator Nation for news, alerts, photos, videos, interesting facts about the University, and nearly all other meaningful and relevant content. They don’t own an “off” switch.

UF Social Media also provides resources, guidelines, policies and best practices as they relate to students, faculty and staff, as well as practical strategies to make the most of online networking and digital interaction.
